strange squeek and knock

Post by jutwit » Mon Apr 05, 2010 11:18 am

the last few times ive been out in freeda im getting a squeek coming from the back somewhere, but only when i turn right, i also have a knock when i go over a bump, that sounds like the back door isnt closed propely but it is. ive been in the back and jumped about and pushed it from side to side but i cant make either noise appear.any ideas ?

Check your tool kit under the sliding door first, make sure your spare wheel is winched up tight too, & nothing else is loose, then if it's still there, start looking at the anti roll bar brackets, bushes & droplinks, if the brackets have broken, it can be hard to see as it may look ok with a quick visual.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Rear antiroll bar bushes are v. quick to 'eyeball'. In this pic (nearside of underbody looking towards the back of the car - click to enlarge) one of them can be seen (two hex headed bolts are holding down a clamping bracket through which is running a thiick bar which then curves upwards at 45 degrees and disappears behind a rear droplink (the dumbell looking thing where the two ends with bolts running through sleeved rubber bearings are connected by a slim shaft). You'd be able to see immediately if one of the clamps is broken and not clamping the antiroll bar properly. Ascertaining if the droplinks are worn is trickier.

Hi
Got a similar problem with mine a really annoying squeak when pulling away from a stand still! From the back nearside,Been under the Bongo checked all the brackets nothing broken or missing.
Then got the other half to bounce around in the back! and saw the nearside anti roll bar bush rubber had play in it! So will be ordering new ones tomorrow and brackets and hopefully that will cure it.

Looking back, my front used to squeak over speed bumps (only when cold I think) but that vanished when I renewed the ARB bushes and droplinks. It does seem they often squeak before they clonk. Alerting you to that is about the only useful function I can find for speed bumps

for me .....if the ARB bushes are knackered, change the Drop links too.....as they are all connected to the bar..... you won't need to get back underneath again in a week or so after replacing just a couple of part...

I may have one! (..Well maybe!) The middle row seats... (If you have them fitted?) The 3rd split section close to the sliding door is prone to coming un-welded up by the headrest... The two un-welded parts of the frame can rub & squeak!!? http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... seat+frame
Try grabbing either side of the bit by the headrest recess & give it a wobble?? Yah never know!

Hope this helps!!?
