12v to 240v converter. Any good?

Post by fidel21 » Sun Mar 28, 2010 8:01 pm

Hi All

I wanted to run the laptop on long trip so the kids could watch the odd DVD in the back.

Has anyone tried this or one of these. It plugs into the cigarette lighter to give you a UK plug socket.

I found mine useless and won't power your laptop unless the battery is fully charged before you start out. far better to get one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/UNIVERSAL-LAPTOP- ... 35a82e51f1

I reckon 75w is a bit lightweight for use on a laptop. I'd recommend a dedicated car laptop adapter like the one below. It's much more efficient to step 12v up to 19 or 20v, rather than up to 240v & back down again.
