Anti roll bar bracket

Another rear bracket broken 2nd one now. This time gone for some heavy duty ones from AVA. Hope these last longer.

Club shop, do both brackets too while you're at it, about £6 apiece I think, your nuts might be tight but plenty of penetrating oil soaked in for a couple of days before, do them on ramps rather than jacked, so the load is on the wheels, much easier then.
If you're doing the rear droplinks, it's imperative they are done with even load on both wheels or you'll end up with torsion on the antiroll bar.

Personally.....I would change the 2 bushes and brackets and the 2 drop links......
When I got mine the garage noticed one bracket was starting to crack, so replaced before purchase......now I changed them recently and the bracket they used was a pattern job and not as good as the Mazda O.E I used....
IMHO if your changing one component on the Anti Roll Bar.....do all 4 parts so all is new at the same time... You will notice the difference...

did two rear ones for a friend at the weekend,both copy parts ,one completley snapped the other torn slightly.fitted gen mazda replacements no problem,but checked all these against my 15year old originals,and the originals were noticably thicker gauge metal.can the club not source some better made ones? just a thought.

Not surprised to hear this Ady. I found replacement rear droplinks the same as original. I used Vectra droplinks (which is what wonkaboy is pointing to in his post above) for the front and they seems to be doing OK even though their shaft is a lot thinner than originals. But I suspect its the thickness (lack of) of the brackets you're talking about? I think that they will probably manage OK UNTIL the ARB rubbers start to wear and allow the ARB to start 'thumping' the brackets. Then I expect they'll fatigue and break more readily than the originals. Trying t oput a positive face on it, I suppose it could be argued that at point they are all due for replacement anyway bit.....

I agree with mikexgough that it's a tidy arrangement to do droplinks and ARB bushes and brackets all in one go (I wouldn't guessed brackets until Kirsty some time back reported the fatiguing issue). They all seem to wear out in concert.

bongobaz - strongly recommend a plain six sided socket (not the star type) and an extension bar when it comes to doing the nuts. There's no way I'd have got mine undone with an ordinary length socket bar, and I suspect the socket might have slipped and stripped if it hadn't been a six sided one. Good luck.

PS - Ady - I'm a bit slow on the uptake. Have you gone and got yourself a bongolow !?!?!

I got my brackets and bushes from a place called,'Japanese Automotive Solutions' on 0845 6808007,I paid £21.00 inc

next day delivery for a pair of original Mazda brackets and bushes. As Mikeon4bc advices,use plenty of penetrating oil!

I heeded everybodys advice but still managed to snap one of the fixed bolts!! It took me just under 3 hours

to replace mine! A bit of heat can help with the nuts as well (Excuse the pun)

Thats the worry. If you have a good socket and extension bar you may get a good purchase, enough to snap the bolt. Not sure there's much you can do to avoid that (hindsight is a wonderful thing). How did you sort it dude as they are welded bolts/studs/threads arent they?

Hi Mike,I used a 6 sided socket as you suggested,but I actually snapped it without using an extension bar! I was only

using the handle when it snapped,(don't know me own strength! ) I had to drill out the rest of the bolt and then

drill through the round welded nut thing on the bracket,using HSS drills,from 2mm all the way up to 8 mm,to make an

hole big enough for a new nut and bolt! Drilling alone,took me an hour and a quarter But at least it's done
