Removing front cig lighter

Does anyone have any tips as to how to easily remove the front cig lighter?
Ours seems to have died and we need it to power the sat nav

Coud a fuse have blown? Have a search on here as someone must have posted in the past about which fuse it is (or else someone should be along shortly who knows which it is)

Fuse No 8 15amp--fusebox in cab near right knee

Am I right in thinking that fuse is for the wing mirrors as well?
I may have dreamt that tho!

If it isn't the fuse then it is easy enough to remove.....remove the plastic panel under the steering wheel (2 screws) reach behind the ciggy socket and remove the "power plug" from the back (just pulls off...if you have a meter you can test this for power) if there is power there (with ignition on) then you remove the socket by gripping from the back and wriggling and pushing hard.

The radio's on that circuit too...

I hard wired a double lighter socket behind the panel under the steering wheel, & ran the sat nav charger wire under the dash & up out the side of the dash by the window at the foot of the A pillar..! No more untidy trailing wires...

I put a blue back light behind the original lighter so i can find the damn thing in the dark!
& keeping it free to... Errr, light fags!!

Is that a hard job to do?? It's something I have been meaning to get round to but not too sure about how to go about it. At the moment I've got a 4 way socket going from the cigarette lighter socket trailing through the glove compartment to behind the radio where I've got the sat nav charger, ipod charger and another extension to the rear coming from it. If I could hard wire this to the LB that would mean I could leave the radio on the starter battery (handy when it switches off when the ignition's turned off, but all my 12v sockets are permanantly off the LB. Is it possible to wire up a standard 4 way socket in this way?

I just took a two socket adapter & hard wired from the cigarette lighter loom & hid under the panel under the steering wheel.. I don't have an LB.

It could be said that wiring up this way may stress the existing loom?? But i've had no trouble!

I had thought about putting the radio & blinds on a permanent live, but setting up to switch off when i lock up!!

But your idea can be done just re-rout the lighter from the LB.. But yer mirrors & radio are on the same circuit!

I absolutely loath cigarette lighters, to the extent that I remove them and replace with a connector like these if at all possible;

You can wire them a couple of different ways but I prefer to leave the socket strip intact and wire alternate points to +12v & Earth, then you cut the Pins into blocks of two - one for each device, and wire the same way, then you can unplug any single device and yet have a proper pin/socket connection which can handle 6 Amps if required. The whole lot can be tucked away under the dash and cable tied to a convenient point.

I never knew they did this kind of block connector... (Just wish i knew when i fitted my 626 window switch into the loom!)
