Post by hoppy » Mon Mar 15, 2010 9:12 pm

Hello every one i have been reading alot the past couple of weeks on this web site. I purchased my bongo on saturday and it is great. I have one issue which is the heater controls have all been warn off so very hard to see what is what. I have found some digital ones on ebay and was wondering if any one has ever made the switch and if it works, any help would be great. Thanks.

No idea, but I don't think it would be easy. The digital one must have various sensors to detect the temperature and effect the automatic temperature variations - be interesting to see what the actual answer is 8)
BTW, welcome to the madhouse :D

It'd be a nightmare to do, as you'd have to fit actuators & wiring etc, lots have asked, all have walked away (AFAIK) this FAQ gives you all the links to look at so you can try & work out what'd be needed - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... 43&t=28727
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Easiest way -

Jack up number plates - insert new Bongo.

Welcome hoppy. Being honest, I think the manual controls - whilst less sexy - have the advantage of being simpler and thus less likely to play up in an ageing Bongo. Also, it isnt a big deal at all (an advantage really in many ways) to have manual controls for adjusting the climate to what you want. I doubt there's huge demand for these manual controls when Bongos are being broken so you should be able to pick up a replacement set in reasonable condition for not much spondooliks. BF Members ebygum32 and tonic are both breaking Bongos at present and might be able to sell you something.

Thanks for all the info by the sounds of it i need to stick to the manual control unit and just try and find a better one. Although i will have to look a bit more in to it, seen as it has not been done before. I will let you all know in the future if i have ever succeeded lol. Cheers PS im shaw there will be lots more questions as i am new to the bongo world.
