rust in spare wheel

Post by bobngo » Tue Mar 09, 2010 10:06 pm

was fitting a full size spare wheel today, and i thought which ever side i put upwards ,water will still get trapped in the gulleys in the wheel,
so i drilled four 1/8" holes in the gulley ,roughly equal distance apart , around the gulley ,this is not enough to effect the strength of the wheel ,but allows the water to drain, therefore lessoning the chances of rust .

i also fitted it so that the tyre valve is nearest to the rear of the bongo, and facing down , this allows me to check its pressure ,when i do the other wheels

small points but may help ????

Sounds weird that. I carry my spare so the outer face is snug against the bodywork (i.e. inside 'dish' of wheel gets the road dirt) and I don't think it holds any water as a result. I do have to lower the wheel to check pressure but it doesn't seem to lose any anyway
