Starting problem after several days of non use
My Bongo starts first time every time and has recently had a new battery, alternator and a check of the glow plugs, whicj i'm told are fine. However if it is left unused for three days or more it stubbonly refuses to start and takes a considerable effort from a jump start. I've been told that this may be a faulty non return valve in the fuel system that means that the diesel slips back into the tank if the Bongo's not used every day or so. Has anybody had a similar problem, and if so is this diagnosis correct?

you could get dieasel line blown out backwards with a compressor
cap of and tank not full
im assuming starter spins ok
if not get a contact set of evil bay for that

you have replaced fuel pump and cleaned banjo filter
only reference to a none return valve i can find was some one had one fitted
dont think they have one as standard

Ithink there might be a check valve on the suction line at the sender flange.

Do you have a power drain ?
I recently had my landrover doing the same, start fine for a day or so, any longer out came the jump leads after a flat battery.
I tracked this down to the relay for the rear heated screen being faulty and keeping the screen heated although it was turned off at the switch.
I changed the relay and all is good on the world, well at the moment.
Hope this is of use.

sounds like 2 problems, check for air leak in fuel system allowing fuel to return to tank, and also a drain on the battery, do you have split charge system? 1 thing i've found which causes big drains on cars with the leisure circuit conversion on the back of the fusebox is if the vehicle has the factory fitted 110v inverter fitted next to the rear power point/lighter socket

Thank you for all of your replies. My knowledge of mechanics is none too great so I may need to get this checked out - i will pass on your thoughts to the mechanic

I would be interested to know how one checks the glow plugs easily. It could be easy if they were individually wired but as they are all parallelled and even individually have a very low resistance, there could be one or two duds which will only show up if the rail is removed. If there was a multi meter capable of measuring very low resistance and one knew the reading for four good plugs in parallel, then a quick check between the rail and a good earth would tell. I have never owned a meter with sufficient accuracy.
It crossed my mind that if this was going to be a recurring maintenance issue, it might be worth removing the rail and individually wiring the plugs with very heavy cable. However, IIABDFI prevailed.

Are you referring to the Factory Kitchen set-up? If so I'd be interested if you found a solution

Shot in the dark but - A few on here have had similar symptoms after fitting an Aldi stereo. They have a permanant feed/battery drain built in - or something of that ilk.
