Another "clunk" question!

Just had 4 new tyres put on today but as I got a mile or 2 down the road I noticed a "clunk noise as I turned a corner. It seems to be as if something is moving because if I repeatedly turn one way it only does in on the first turn, & again if I turn the other way it only does it the once. Any ideas??? I've had a look underneath with my dad, but nothing seems to be out of place (not that I'd know either way). It is booked in for the cam belt tomorrow so I'll get him to check it out too but if anyone has any ideas for starters then feel free to let me know!!

If the clunk wasn't there before the tyres were done, have you checked the wheel nuts?

Yeah Kirsty, checked all that, it sounds like something is sliding?

Not the usual symptoms, but check all the usual suspects, droplinks for joint wear or a loose fixing, ARB's & brackets, wishbones. Is yours 4wd? CV related maybe, but I think that would usually be more of a rumble round a corner.
It's not something sliding around in the bongo, tools in the footwell maybe?

there not wider tyres are they ?? and rubbing on the wheelarch on full lock ??

I'll have a look again at the usual & double check everything, I'm hoping it is something simple. It is the 2 wheel drive, not 4.
I did put 215's on in place of 195'2 but it seems free from any infringement & it only happens once when I turn in that direction, not every time, & then just the first time when I turn opposite which would sound like something has been left inside, but I can feel something move as if it's down by my feet?? I did mention to Allans that I'd put 215's on & he told me he always did that without any problems, apart from just the one. I'm hoping it's something really simple so I can come back & admit to something really embarrassing that I have/haven't done!!

I've got 215/55 17's with no issues as have many people (& bigger & wider) So I doubt it's the tyres if the wheels have the right offset.

Car jacked up/antiroll bar disturbed/bracket snapped or link just about to fail and the disturbance has now goosed it???

If they haven't been refitted then the wheel will clunk on the studs/nuts

Plastic rings that fit in the wheel centre to make the hole the same size as the wheel hub. I can't see how they will cause a knock if the nuts are properly tightened (certainly didn't on mine), just wheel wobble as they may be very slightly off centre. If the nuts weren't fully tightened, you'd get a knock every time you turned the wheel.

Mine did this about a year after I fitted new anti-roll bar bushes but didn't fit new brackets. Got a clonk when turning one way, like something had thumped the floorpan. Turned out one u-bracket had sheared and the rubber bush had dropped out. Because this had happened to Kirsty a short while before it happened to me, I have taken her advice and shall now renew bushes AND brackets whenever the ARB bushes need renewing (esp. as ebay type pattern ones might well be flimsier than originals).
