Roof Light (AFT)

I've searched and read a couple of posts about this, but I'm not sure they answer my query.

The AFT roof light is not working. Bulb tests ok. Contacts seem clean and dry, roof is up and works fine. Any other ideas? Is there a switch which allows the light to come on/go off with the roof up/down?

Presumably not.... hence the light doesn't work - yet bulb is fine.
This is why I ask if there is a switch which isolates the light when the roof is down.

Sorry don't know. Don't think there's a manual switch. Our bongo is at the garage at the moment, you'll need someone who can check if theirs switches on with the hatch open and AFT down?

Yup, it switches off when it comes down, not sure where it is though, sounds like yours is stuffed.

Mine was a bit flaky when I first got it, but settled down with use and has fine ever since. Worth checking if power is getting to the contacts just to be sure, but overall I think Kirsty is on the right track (as usual )

ours was like that and i found that the problem was the wiring from the lock switch which is where its fed from

I thought it would be powered by the lock switch in the AFT, as it would be logical that the switch is "armed" when the roof is fully up, and then gives power to the light. Do you know how you fixed it?



If anyone else has some ideas, please let me know.

mine was just a worn wire, so simple fix. if you have a multimeter just trace to see if you have power.

Are we talking about the switch which is in the AFT near the light? If so, how did the wire get worn? Just checking before I start taking things apart !

Took the unit off the roof. There are two sets of wires, one for the AFT "lock" switch and the others go the the light. The lock switch doesn't seem to link to the light, so I guess the problem is either a dodgy wire/loose connection or something in the AFT control unit. The search continues...........

make sure there's a little ball bearing between the contacts, have seen lots of these where 1 of the contacts, usually an end 1, and this gives extra clearance and the slider, that clicks between/from contact to contact has a ball bearing thats pushed by a little spring, if the contact breaks then the ball bearing just pops out and thus u get no contact from point to point, hope this sort of makes sense lol

Mine stopped working last year. Contacts all looked fine, but I stripped it out & used a switch contact cleaner spray. After quite a bit of switching on & off it condescended to work again & has been fine ever since.
