17" Spare Wheel

Post by PaulDeb&Freda » Tue Feb 23, 2010 5:55 pm

Hi folks,

thought I had better get around to replacing the space saver with a full size wheel.

My Freda is running on 215/50 R17's and I guess I would like a similar spare.

Have searched the site but didn't get the answer I was looking for.

What other vehicle wheels can I use for a spare? I have a local breakers yard so want to be armed with proper info before I go.
cheers

I'd be more concerned about having a spare wheel/tyre combo with an overall same diameter as the other wheel tyre combinations. For example, i have 18" wheels on my bongo, with a 15" spare wheel, but the overall circumference of all the wheels (including the spare) is identical. The spare tyre is a suitably higher profile to compensate for the low profile tyres fitted to the 18" wheels.

You just need a normal 15" Bongo steel spare.
Problem you may have is that your current wheels are 2.12% too small so, if you have a 4WD, you would need to change the tyre on the spare to a 205/65x15, to avoid damaging the viscous coupling.
You can use this guide to find compatible wheels http://www.alloywheelsinternational.com ... UIDE1.html - mainly Mazda, Mitsubishi and Hyundai.

Cheers for the info guys.

Will measure the overall diameter for mine and make sure the new spare is as close as possible.

My van is 2WD so no issues with couplings.

cheers
