seems false economy to me not to change the other belt to a/c

Totally agree, get them all done at the same time.
This is why it pays to lift the seats every now & then to check everything's as it should be & nothing's wearing out, I can't believe both belts just went with no signs of wear. Lets hope that mre damage hasn't been done by overheating it [-o<
