Latest overheating problem
OK so this weeks bongo fault is, driving along and I hear a kind of clonk like perhaps I have just run over a plastic cup, then all of a sudden the Charge and Humidity light come on on the dash and the heating stops coming out hot, then the dreaded temp gauge starts to rise, so I pull over sharpish and kill then engine,
There is now coolant pouring out of the header tank over flow!!! and a lot of pressure in the tank.
I have had the overheat due to split hoses before but it hasn't affected the heater and dash warning lights.
Any Ideas?
Cheers Julian.

You say you have had the overheat before...
I fear the worst........head gasket or head.
Not what you want to hear but i'm afraid thats often the case

How long ago was the split hose problem?
The Charge/Sediment lights indicate a shot alternator. No heat from the blowers would be expected from a coolant drop & overheat.
Strange coincidence or somehow related . . .?

Re: Latest overheating problem
As rita says - check the belts - same belt for the charge light as the waterpump

Re: Latest overheating problem
Thanks all, but if I had thought about it then the belts would have been the obvious choice, seems that is the issue so with luck a couple of new belts and a coolant bleed and bobs you uncle (unless in doing so the head has gone AGAIN but fingers crossed)
So then the next question would be what belts would Halfords have for this? I assume it will be the same as a Ranger, any ideas before I attempt to talk to them.
Cheers
Julian.

If the previous overheat was before the current head was fitted then , with luck, you may have got away with it......fingers crossed for you.

From compatible parts database -
Alt Belt,ADM59621,
Alt Belt,Gates 6474EXL
I would lift the seats & have a look or stick your head underneath to confirm this is the case, does sound most likely, but it could be a bu66ered pulley or something else.

Re: Latest overheating problem
Just a thought: there are a pair of belts for the alternator & water pump - did they both snap? It should run fine with one broken, but I suppose it is possible that if one broke it could get tangled up & cause the 2nd one to snap too. Let us know how you get on.

Re: Latest overheating problem
Yes both belts have gone, one must have gone before, so then who has changed these? any pit fall?
Re: Latest overheating problem
Interesting this, im going to do a flush out of the whole system and replace the water pump and thermostat while im there.
I have just now bought the 2 belts as again while im there.
( once the bloody weather changes, just had 6" snow where i am on Sunday)
I'm well read up on the flush and refill, bleed procedure thanks to all who helped me there.
Is there a how too anywhere on the water pump and belts?
Im sure the belt as re easy enough but its always good to have an expert tell you what you should and should'nt do.
Thanks

Re: Latest overheating problem
There's a fact sheet in the members area that covers changing the water pump & then re-fitting the belts:
