Thanks to bhongo boy for the offer, have already gone for the ebay set & will see if they do the trick.....am running around on a very rusty space-saver wheel for a while until they turn up!

I really wouldn't use the space saver, chances are the tyre is waaay out of date & it's only rated for about 50 miles max at 50 miles an hour max, plus if you've got 4wd I don't think it'll do you any favours. Try & get hold of a full sized (15") spare wheel asap with a correctly rated tyre with a rolling radius to match your tyres.

good advice, and spot on...I had no option but the van shakes like mad and there was a grinding noise & smell of burnt rubber, must keep to below 50!

Are your wheels alloys? I know that the local tyre fitter (who was a keen blinger and giving me straight advice) said my alloys have special valves that - although they can be got - are not easily got 'off the shelf'.

My tyre guys had them in stock when they shod mine, weren't anything special AFAIK Mike & we got the same wheels after all

Obviously a better class of fitter in Weymouth

Are yours 'Precious' brand? I noticed that although DBOs looked almost identical to mine they were actually a different make. Or is it possible same wheels might have different valves fitted? Either ways, its what he told me and I'm not qualified to say

mine are "Precious" brand Mike, exactly the same as yours, I even asked them about the valves as it'd come up on here before, he just looked at me like I was daft (don't start ), most of the guys in there are pimpers & they get a fair few of the "boys" coming in, don't know if that made the difference.

Probably. The fitter at my end was a pimper and knew they could be got, but not off the shelf from the National Tyre place he worked at.

What's reassuring is that they can be got without big hassle - thats the main thing

DISASTER!!!! Bought the valves off ebay, turned up ok but are far too big. Tyre shop guy says I need short stubby ones roughly 10mm in size....no-one seems to have heard of them including the local Mazda dealer.....Bongo grounded indefinitely

I went through pure hell trying to get this sorted on our wheels,went to maybe 10 tyre places,some wheel experts the lot!

Jap import alloys have a different size hole from the standard wheels you see everywhere.

Dont know if you guys remember at the bash i was asking arround about flush fit valves,we couldnt get an adapter either.

I went to a so called pro tyre place and they took wheel off and valve then found out that they didnt have new valve to go back in,after about an hour going through garage they found one.The try fitter went mental at manager for not saying its a jap rim.

In the end i got out of trouble by finding a set of chrome tyre valves with standard end,they were called competition valves i think,they had a nut on the back and luckly the hole fitted.



All this hasstle was when we were doing loads of trips to cornwall and back last year,we would go there for about 10days and come back for a couple before setting off again,

Think i remeber they werwe 10mm valve sizes,and one guy said they were used as racing valve sizes??say 10mm to a garage and they say not seen them in ages!

so he may not be pulling a fast one!!!

Thanks again folks, I like the look of the bike valves so will follow them up. My tyre guy won't put a tube in cos he says the valve will rub on the rim and would be dangerous....am also following up the guy who suggested importing valves from India!!! Just can't believe it is proving so difficult to get these tyres changed AAARRGHHH!!!!!

Your tyre man is right - Shouldn't fit inner tubes to a tubeless tyre anyway - there's ribs inside a tubeless tyre and they wear through the tube in time - tyre man wouldn't know how long you'd be using it.....................

Sounds to me like a good excuse to get a nice shiny new set of wheels ...... how about these 17" ...... £440 with tyres?
