Hi, our Fredas front wipers are slamming into the lower windscreen plastic facia making one hell of a bang - worse when on fast and at higher road speeds. I've tried adjusting the position of the arms on the drive spindles but there is a lot of backlash and the drivers side wiper arm now passes the A piller on the up stroke (!!!), which is again not much good. My question is: can the throw of the blades be reduced mechanically or is there a bit of electrical wizardry that is supposed to limit the angular travel but has perhaps packed up - a sensor perhaps? If anyone has an answer or some advice then drop me a pm or e-mail me at

Cheers, Paul and Claire

Sounds to me like your mechanism is worn if there's that much play in it, I'd have a look at the mechanism & see what's wearing loose, or give Tonic or Ebygum a shout, they're breaking bongos, may still have a wiper mechanism available.
This diagram may help -

Just a thought, have you got the right blades on the right arms & the right arms on the right spindles? I got myself very confused when I took mine off to spray them

You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Dunno, took a few goes to get it right, I'd had a busy weekend & Boyfrombrasil & Sue turned up halfway through, so I didn't know what I was doing

Yep sound right to me too!
You should be able to set em up so the drivers arm don't slap the A pillar on the top stroke & they tickle the top of the plastic at rest...

Cheaper by comparison to a race horse...
