Returning to the original question ........ is that Bongo an Imperial conversion?

Mine is and it has an identical little round switch in the same place, which Imperial fitted to operate the single rear foglight, which as jaylee suggested, is one of the reversing lights rewired with a red bulb.

No, its not a conversion. Not for long though hopefully!!

Solved - the little switch is indeed the rear fog light which only works when you have the main headlights on.
