lumpy running

Post by phatgit » Mon Feb 08, 2010 8:48 pm

Hi all,
set off to work ok this morning, got halfway when it wouldn't pull and stalled, managed to get it going again, only got about 300yds same thing happened again, after it cooled off for about an hour got it started again but was very lumpy and won't tick over unless i gave it some throttle.
anyway got it trailered to the garage, got to thinking maybe its either fuel filter or its sucking air in somewhere. only had the bongo 2weeks,what do you guys think?
any help/pointers most welcome many thanks

Seems very similar to my experiance a few weeks ago, i had a fuel gauge which wasn't that accurate and although was reading low it did indicate we had some jungle juice on board ! Managed to limp to the fuel station and problem was cured.
Sometimes can be the simplist of things.

It sounds like your garage are sensibly checking the common problems first. :)

If the fuel has got low, the pick up in the tank may have got a bit gunged up, may need a blow back through the fuel line (fuel cap off & make sure the tank isn't full when you do it  ) to clear it.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

All sorted (i hope)
back from the garage tonight, they changed 3 or 4 pieces of rubber fuel line bit perished and cracking, also replaced fuel filter and run some cleaner through. seems to have done the trick so well pleased

Nice one, good point to remember, fuel hose is a service item, how many people have replaced theirs? I know I haven't.

UPDATE
since the above problems been sorted, the bongo has been a lot easier to start, virtually on the key (was this an early warning????)
