Haydn Long Cube Alarm Fitted to 2ltr Petrol.

Hi Just fitted a Haydn Long Cube Alarm 2x Temp display and 1x Voltage display LED blue Fitted to 2.0 ltr Petrol 2001 reg easy install Temp 1 bolted to rear of Cylinder Head Temp 2 to top Rad Hose just after Thermo Housing to get indication of Thermostat opening. 12 volt showing Main Battery via fused ignition swiched connection.
Also fitted Haydn Low Coolent Alarm very easy to fit.
Excellent service from Haydn who included required Temp Sensors plus also extra sensors for different locations. Very fast delivery .
Can anybody tell me the Temperatures I should expect at Temp 1 Cylinder head and Temp 2 Top Rad Hose near Thermo Housing ? I am getting approx 80 deg Temp 1 and 47 degTemp 2. This is just on a short local run to test it is working ok. There is also a connection to switch a Fan via a Relay but I have not connected this yet. Thanks Andy.

Where on the cylinder head? may be comparable figures with the TM2 if the probe is fitted in the same place, loads of threads on that, As yours is one of Haydn's newer products, I don't think so many have been fitted.

Temp 1 Sensor fitted to a bolt at the rear of the head as recomended by Haydn just below the Engine lift bracket. I expect there might be a difference in Temperatures between the 2.5 ltr Turbo Diesel and my 2.0 ltr non Turbo Petrol.

As it's a totaly different engine, I shouldn't think there'll be any useful relationship at all, may be worth amending the title to include the fact that it's 2l petrol, so people can see at a glance.

Might be worth talking with The Great Pretender (Mel) about where best to stick the water temp sensor - he knows his stuff and has talked about fitting one inside the hose, which strikes me as a neat idea

Would have thought that sort of stuff would have been sorted before these went on sale.....?

Not sure what is meant by...."all that should have been sorted before they went on sale".

I "believe" the 2lt petrol runs quite cool so around 80C at the rear of the cylinder head sounds reasonable, setting that sensor to alarm at about 90 could be a good starting point.

I think it must be remembered that although I developed the LCA for the Bongo all the devices are available to all makes/models and I don't see how I can reasonably be expected to know the temp at any location one of these is fitted or indeed the best place to fit them....I can only make suggestions and the owner/fitter must make the final decision.

These are simply temp gauges and are supplied as such. I haven't fitted every type to my Bongo.

All I suggest is that they be fitted, "normal" temps noted and the alarm threshold set accordingly.....some peeps might want one sensor to measure oil, AFT etc.

It's up to you folk...they also look good and can provide useful diagnostic info.

I may or may not continue to supply these CUBE alarms.....depends on demand.
The (( i-alert )) seems to be popular with the Land Rover peeps as it will control a Rad fan...(as does the CUBE)

I was just looking for average Temps of other users and 80 DEG as an initial reference point on my own engine that i know is in good condition and the cooling system is in good order any significant rise above that or below that given the driving conditions at the time may indicate a cooling problem and when used with the Low Coolant Alarm is good insurance against any future problems. What must always be considered when fitting any type of Cooling Temp Alarm System is all the Variables i.e Fitting positions, ambient temperatures, Driving conditions and Maintenance of the Engine and Cooling system etc etc.
The other reason for installing this alarm is I like the Blue LED Display.

To date only 3 CUBE alarms are fitted to Bongos.

1 to a 2ltr petrol
1 to a 2.5 ltr petrol
1 to a 2.5 ltr Diesel..

I'm afraid you are the trailblazers .....

However if you have the block sensor in the same position as TM-2 owners then the readings "should" be the same.

I agree. But here's a thought. It should not be complicated with modern internet technology, and would be an excellent customer relationship / product enhancement trick, to give owners a product 'members area' where they could enter details about where they've fitted their sensor, and what temps they've observed in different driving conditions (remember that questionnaire?). Once set up, users do their own footwork, and draw their own conclusions from the data bank and whatever patterns it reveals. A feature like this might appeal to lots of different cars owners if/when you sell product to them. Once you've become a millionaire from this superb idea I've thrown you for nowt, you can buy me a pint

It has been fitted in the storage /cubby in front of the auto gear select lever will post a pic when I get chance intend to fill that area with other things such as 4 way 12 volt adaptor LED Compass and anything else that might make it look like an Aircraft Cockpit
