Removing spare battery

Post by rustyp » Wed Feb 03, 2010 9:41 pm

Hello there, is it possible to remove the 2nd battery in a Bongo. I have a cold weather Bongo type with 2 batteries as standard.

I am in a quest to add lightness to the Bongo in a desperate attempt to achieve better milespertankfull!

No reason why not, just make sure the +ve terminal of the cable is well protected from touching the bodywork. Also make sure the remaining battery is in good enough nick to do the job on it's own.

As Missfixit says, just remove the passenger side battery & insulate the battery end of the +ve terminal with a load of insulation tape. Although originally a twin battery Bongo, mine only had the drivers side battery in place when imported (or at least when I took delivery). This was a 65AH battery, which isn't really big enough to cope with starting the Bongo, in winter anyway. You'll probably want to upgrade it to about 90AH.

Why not just convert it to a leisure battery, your not gonna save much fuel by taking it out.
use the spare battery to run your radio and lights and blinds with a split charge relay.
then at least you still have a battery you can use.
Lost without my Bongo.

Agree with DBO :D You wouldn't be able to measure the microscopic fuel saving anyway
