wheel diameters

Post by bobngo » Sat Jan 30, 2010 2:45 pm

i,ve noticed, particularly on the pimping section that bongo,s have wheel diameters anywhere between 15-20 inches.

as the difference between 15" and 20" cicumference is about 7.5% (i think ,my maths always were bad )

now this must effect acceleration, fuel consumption ,pulling power, handling, crusing speeds etc etc

so whats the pros and cons of various size wheels.

or is it just for the pimping effect ???

Generally, you would fit tyres with a lower profile with these bigger rims in order to keep the overall diameter the same, or as close to the original as possible.

Hi Bobngo,

Slightly increasing the rolling radius will reduce the revs at any given speed, I run (as some others on here do) 16" rims, with 215/65 tyres.

A useful site is HERE

.... but remember to get the correct load rating if you change tyres
