Thanks Paul - sounds like you were right - Having the thermostat replaced, system bled and pressure tested. However today, the guys at the garage said that I had hot and cold spots on the radiator and that it was full of gunk - it has gone off now for a proper flush ...
Will keep you posted!

Ok - so radiator so clogged that needed a new one . .
Heating still not working, heater matrix is apparently clogged too - getting a new one fitted next week. Guys at the garage reckoned that should be the problem sorted - but I am a little concerned now about other clogging issues!! Is it likely that I will need other parts checking to see if they are clogged up? Pipes etc? I remember reading stuff from Alan on his Bongo and he replaced all the pipes too . . should I consider this?

If your garage is flushing the cooling system, this will include the coolant pipes etc and I would think they'll be sorting any problems that appear. Is it likely that I will need other parts checking to see if they are clogged up? Pipes etc?
