loss of power......

Post by cliffy the climber » Wed Jan 27, 2010 6:42 pm

hi all,i was in the bongo today and i heard a squealing noise from the engine it sounded like it could be the turbo, kuckily i was like 200m from home,i had no loss of power when i heard the noise which stopped as i backed off and turned into my street,i turned the engine off and then restarted it and went round the block, the noise had gone but so had my power..!,like really no power at all struggling to pull itself along, now once before i set off to the lakes and my intercooler pipe blew off and i lost power but not this much which makes me wonder if it is the turbo,i went round the block again with the passenger seat up and couldnt see the actuator rod moving..?,im not sure whether its the turbo or something else weird like blocked intake or fuel starvation, just seems weird that i heard a squealing noise then shortly after my problems started, its just my luck as i was about to give the bongo a good cleanup and put it up for sale as i cant really afford it anymore being on the dole...

any helpmuch appreciated..thanks cliff

If it's loss of power below @ 2000rpm, it won't be the turbo I don't think, as that only kicks in around that point. Check & see it there's any black sooty staining around the exhaust manifold gasket, that could be FUBAR?
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

i dont think its losing power before 2000rpm,but it struggles after that, there is no noise from the turbo but im thinking thats what it might be,do they normally make a noise when run with a dodgy turbo or maybe its not spinning at all,has anyone had a turbo go if so what did it do etc,and how much is a recon one if anybody knows...

Noise could be a broken No.1 stud on exaust manifold, it's the easiest one to check..... thank goodness, and the lack of turbo could be something along the lines of..... http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... pe#p314350

All the best.
