Electric blinds..?

I'm trying to work out if the electric blinds have a relay somewhere in the loom? (one for each side?) Cheers..!

No relays in the loom just the two sets of switches (front panel and local). The circuit doesn't show it but I believe there is a limit switch in the motor itself to prevent over run.

Am i right in thinking (looking at the diagram.) that the earth - runs off the loom back through the front switches one for each side??

To simplify my query, i'm concentrating on a slight intermittent electrical niggle i've had with the passenger side for the last 3 years...

Hit the right front to lower or raise, the blinds either hesitate of for a brief few seconds, or just don't work.. Leave it a while & its alright..! 85% of the time they are fine.. Today i noticed briefly on just one occasion after trying it from the front, when i tried to close the front passenger using the switch over the door the rear passenger blind dropped slightly (about 3" in sympathy when the over door started moving!

Then everything was fine again.. Whadayathink?

Mine does the same, esp. over the cold damp winter and/or if unused for some time. Seems to come alive again once camping season arrives, though I did score a spare switch off ebay a long time back so I can try replacing it (the o/s is the offender) if it goes 100% AWOL

I'm starting to think it could be the switch on the front Mike.. First chance i get i'll be taking it apart & cleaning any contacts. Can't do any harm!

J i have had the same hesitent issue it is most def more noticable in the winter, and i have found that my switch was filthy a bit of contact cleaner and no more prob, make sure your runners aren't gummed up aswell some fresh grease on them makes all the difference, i hve the same with the bench runners aswell when it freezing they are really diffacult to get them to move, old dirty sticky grease in my prob

that's what I was planning to do when I get a round tuit. I have some spray stuff for cleaning model a/c I might try, but other than that not sure what product to use - any recommendations? WD40?

Yup that's right, because the switches have to reverse the connections to the motor you have to run both the motors connections back to the switch, and then you pick up earth and supply at the switch itself.

Wd40 would work prob mike i used a heavy duty degreaser which i got from work called ace 87 sprayed on left and cleaned off came up really well, i did have the blinds out for washing at the time aswell so it was easy

WD40 on electrical contacts is NOT a good idea, as it contains a grease that collects dust and other particles which then over time cause as many problems.

Geoff - is that really a problem as I was thinking non conductive oxide coatings was the main issue, and opportunities for substantial dirt to get in would be minimal? The idea if anything is to clean and flush out?

I used electric contact spray cleaner green and yellow spray can sorry mike i thought you ment wd40 on the runners i would like to add i sprayed degreaser on the b;lind runners before re-greasing

Took the offending front passenger blind switch out just now. (Killing a bit of time while my partners car has MOT!)
It does come apart there are two metal rockers in there & 4 contact points two at the top, two at the bottom.. The earth seems to be at two points in the middle, one on each rocker where it vee's in the cradle & pivots slightly.
These metal cradles can be removed by sliding em out the side of the board.. Pretty much everything in the switch contacts was dirty (a little like the mouse mung you used to get in the old computer ball mouse!) I cleaned the four contact points, and i also paid attention to cleaning the two metal cradles where the two contacts sit & pivot, plus the point where the contacts actually touch the cradle on the vee...
The switch seems more responsive.. & more to the point my passenger door blind lifting on opening pimp (should they be left down.) is now 100% reliable!!
Though i have cleaned the contacts on the negative switch on the sliding door that triggers the light & pimp just to be on the safe side...
