Bongo Fuel Gauge Erratic

Post by paulandyt » Sun Jan 24, 2010 4:27 pm

Just before Christmas my fuel gauge on my bongo started reading false information. I have a Ford Freda 2.5 TD 4WD 1995.

I filled up the tank, and the gauge moved to 3/4 full. It then went down to half a tank after 50miles and stuck there for another 100 miles then shot down to below empty for another 20miles before going up to 1/4 tank. (I knew when I should be refilling by the milage)

I put then put 18litres of fuel in this weekend, and the fuel gauge stayed empty for 20 miles before kicking into life and going up to just over 1/4 tank.

Because I am getting miss readings rather than getting no fuel gauge at all, could the fault be with the sensor inside the tank? If so, will I need to replace the whole fuel tank, or can I just replace the sensor? Or maybe it is something completely different?

And what a damn good sheet it is too, wish it had been around when I had to do mine a few years ago, would have saved me some time, I made an extra earth connection as a backup and havent had any problem since.

Removed my sender this morning, drilled out the old connector block, soldered a new wire to the float and fitted through the sender panel and then wired in two earths to the original screws to make sure, all works a treat now! My water alarm is another story though....see my thread I've started....
