Halogen? convection oven in Aldi on 17th

Post by missfixit70 » Fri Jan 15, 2010 4:50 pm

Just saw this - http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/28 ... 1-15-12-16 at £30 it seems to be about half the price of the ones I've seen advertised, may have to give it a go. Doesn't actually say it's Halogen though?

That was my next question  is it genuinely useful, or is it going to be one of those things that becomes a dust gatherer after using it 3 times?
Having seen the shopping channel program on a similar model, I like the idea that it self cleans just by chucking a bit of water in, if it actually does what it says. They were doing a ful roast in there, cakes, fry ups, the works.

Previous thread about them here - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... en#p365769 = knew I'd seen them mentioned somewhere.

Second the above :D We have not used our proper oven since we bought one before Christmas, and the amount of cleaning it has saved :!: . It is Halogen, the tops all appear to be the same. But we think that it is probably too big to be part of the Bongo kit but I'm sure others will disagree.

This is the same one that my parents have. They paid more than twice that for it. They've had for a month or two now and still use it everyday for all their cooking - roast dinners, the lot. Well worth the money from what they say, but he doesn't reckon it would be as useful for a family (for a couple its suits them perfectly).

Stopped in Aldi lunchtimish, looked like they'd all gone, but there was one lonely looking one left, only just got it in time, a disappointed couple were waiting for me to change my mind  Looks like a good bit of kit, probably not really for camping though unless you were on a site on hook up for a week which is not something I often do. Be great at home though, I hate putting the oven on just for one ( too mean & miserly too cook for anyone else   ).

I have had one for a year or more,Mine is the original JML one, i don't use anything else to cook with now but it's to big for a Bongo, any way you only need a kettle for a pot noodle and an opener for wine bottles when out in the bongo

Used it for the first time last night, didn't do anything special, just did some oven chips & bacon in there, quicker than my gas oven & cooks nice & even, bacon done in no time, not convinced about the self clean facility, but no preheating needed, & you can watch it cook - brill. Won't get much use for now as I try & do most of my cooking on the woodburner as that's on anyway
