Rear window wiper

Post by gmaczbongo » Wed Jan 13, 2010 9:32 pm

Bongo has no rear wiper.
The rear window is usually filthy and there is no way I can see anything through it.
I would guess that all the wiring is already included in the door and the wiper stalk has the rear stuff on it.
I would then have to just buy a scrappie wiper unit and fit it.
Is the water pipe from front to back fitted in the door or does it have a seperate container in the back. Is the water pipe already fitted to all vans and you just connect it.
Wiper is not a must have item, it would still be good to have one if it is easy to fit.
My question is this, do I live in hope or in the real world.

I have never seen a Bongo without a rear wiper. Have you PM'd ebygum32 to see if he still has the wiper on the Bongo he is breaking up.

I am going down to Wigan where my sister lives on 25th, Service at Wheelquick & Mot nearby. Could possibly set up a realy if you get one from Chris.

Mine has a chrome ball handle where the wiper would go.
It may have had a wiper, I do not see any sign of one.
I am really wondering if all the connections are already fitted and I would be able to fit one without a front to rear wiring/plumbing job.

Should be, as I said I have never seen a Bongo without a rear wiper. Perhaps the last owner took it off either because it got damaged or it fouled a bike carrier etc.

OK, first things first.. Do you have a turn switch at the end of yer wiper stalk?
Do you have two pumps connected to yer screen wash reservoir?
Is there a 10A red fuse in the slot second row down 5th from the left fuse box in the cab? :D

Thanks for all the replies.
I will look for the double pump etc tomorrow.
If there is 2 pumps then it should have pipe to the back.

Yep, it runs inside the passenger wing, under the header tank/coolant reservoir, through the bulkhead behind the header tank, up the passenger side windscreen pillar behind the trim with the handle screwed to it, & through to the back to the tail gate...

Do you have a spoiler? I've never bothered looking, but the nozzle wash jet comes out of there.. (Looking at it to the left of the high level brake light??)

Hi
Don't quote me, but I remember some years ago, that some members had trouble with some bracketry holding the rear wiper motor breaking...in fact I think mine looks a bit loose (i'll have to have the panel off)...so it's possible that the motor was removed for this reason. It should be possible to find a second hand one and re-fit.

If you're going to fit one, you should be able to pick one up 2nd hand, or ask if anyone has one (in the 'Stuff Wanted' forum). Here are a couple of links that should help with the fitting. HERE

Some Jap owners remove their rear wiper blades for a "clean" look so maybe that is what has happened to yours......if so....I would think you could reinstate...... as a bonus..... if you can't get a wiper arm.....The Japs now fit Mazda Demio arms/blades as they are more stylish, plastic and modern..... they sweep a smaller area though....

Turned on my Rear Wiper yesterday to wipe away rain and thought "funny, the rain's not clearing" .

The bl@@dy window has fragmented into a million shards. No doubt following the big freeze. No sign of any chip.

Luckily my tint foil has contained it on the inside.

Slapped some transpaseal, which I have had around in anticipation of civil unrest or bricks through the window from jealous husbands, on the outside for good measure and set off for Autoglass.

Got there and found the place cordoned off and seething* with Old Bill.

What a winter!

Had a look and feel of the wiper stalk and all the controls are there.
My washer bottle has only one pump and one hose coming of it.
It has a spoiler and I will have to have a closer look for the jet.
Has anybody else got a missing wiper.
Page 81 of the Bongo handbook has the rear wiper/washer switch as a grade option.
My bongo has this switch.
I will have to remove the rear panel and hae a wee squint at it.
Thanks for the replies.

I think I remeber Doone saying that Allan had seen one or two without a rear wiper as standard, is yours a fairly basic grade in any other respects? ie leccy blinds, mirrors, trim self close on the sliding door, rear heater, etc ?

Remove the two bolts holding the grab handle on the passenger side windscreen pillar, then kind of slide up, unclip & jiggle out the trim... (It's alot easier than it sounds.) The rear washer tube should be running up behind along with a wire loom? I know it should be there cuz thas where i put the aerial fer my alarm!

I think someone mentioned a rear wiper arm for a Ford Fiesta/Mazda 121 might do the job once..? But i could be wrong.
