replacing a sliding door...

A couple of questions which I hope someone might be able to answer for me... We have had a bump in our sliding door for some time so that it doesn't close perfectly; the window in the door has now also sprung a problem. So I am considering replacing the door. Is this the kind of thing that can be done at home, or would I need to get a garage to do it? Secondly, I have the chance to pick up a 1996 door; our vehicle is 1995 reg. Is it going to fit or is there anything different about the model for the two years?

The door should fit. I've never removed one and hubby isn't here to ask. It's obviously going to be heavy but I don't see why you couldn't DIY, I've heard of a few that have been replaced. I've searched the forum but can't find anyone on here who's mentioned doing this before. If nobody else comes along to offer help, I wonder if you could ask the person who is selling the door for some advice?

Coming back for more help! The 1996 door which I might get comes with a motor - now I've heard of such things on the forum, usually because they are causing a problem! but as far as I know our existing 1995 door has no such thing. Will this be a problem in fitting the new door onto our older vehicle? What does this motor do?

Could be for the soft close mechanism.

Does your door not pull itself closed once it hits the frame? how many "plungers" do you have sticking out of the door frame? Chances are, that's the motor, if you don't have it, I shouldn't think it'd present a problem, there's also the solenoid that operates the central locking that some will refer to as a motor.
