V6 exhaust temperature warning light
hello everyone
yesterday the heat warning light came on on my V6 bongo . cat was roasting hot. bongo was a
bit slugish 1000 /1800 revs also not idileing smoothly as usual .mechanic freind had quick look last night said it was missfireing changed spark plugs tonight. running alot smoother now. took it a15 min run after seemed fine
cat never felt particularly hot but warning light staying on. what do i look at next the cat or exhaust
also freind said the digaignostic plug was a different pin set up from what they use in work.would I be
better off taking it to someone who tunes imports .for a computer diagnostics to find out what caused
the misfireing. why is light staying on
thanks in advance

Re: V6 exhaust tempreture warning light
Hi there,
Cheffy has had this issue and will know more than me.
I think it's to do with unburnt fuel entering the cat and causing it to get too hot from memory. You may need a new sensor and/or a fault code reader/resetter to get rid of the light. Wait to see if Cheffy picks this up or PM him for more info.
You could try disconnecting the battery for 10-15 mins to see if that clears the warning light.
Hope this helps.

Re: V6 exhaust tempreture warning light
Hi there,
If this is the case then I think it would be wise to find out why they had unburnt fuel on them. Were the plugs at fault, or could it be the HT leads or disty cap/rotor arm.
Worth checking or it will happen again.
Did the garage test these or were they happy it was worn plugs?
Is the rest of the car well serviced, for example has it got good oil, filter and clean air filter, these will all affect the mpg you get.
Regards
Andy

Re: V6 exhaust tempreture warning light
Hi there
light still on after reconecting the battery.I have owend the bongo for 15 months. I bought it in a private sale from a bongo fury member. It was imported by churchams, about 20 months ago,I was told by the previous owner that churchams gave it a full service. In august I changed oil and filters. I never changed plugs as a mate checked them and going by the miles on M.O.T and speedo they have only done 10,000 Km and looked fine. Since then ive done 8,000 Km. Ive had no problems what so ever and its starts first time and runs very smoothly.
Mate changed plugs last night after work they were pretty black and smelt of unburnt fuel.had bought the
plugs when getting oil and filters done so had a set in the garage definetly running much smoother again
mate's fixed all my cars for years but think my bongo was the first he's seen never mind touched.so not
really sure what to do next he can't find anything on works computer system for bongo's at all
would my best bet be to find a jap specialist for a computer fault diagnostics
thanks

Ok just a thought.
Don't rule out local Mazda dealer, you may find one that can scan and reset codes for a reasonable price.

Re: V6 exhaust tempreture warning light
Cats are always roasting hot, that's how they work - they do nothing until they've reached a proper temperature. Light may be on because the cat is bust - they really don't take kindly to unburnt fuel going into them
When I worked at a dealer, we had to replace loads for the same reason.
Try giving it a good thrashing for a few miles, it MIGHT just burn the rubbish out of it

Not sure if it'll help, but there's a diagnostics factsheet in the members area.

Re: V6 exhaust temperature warning light
hi glenbongo I work @said a/c garage, the hand held scanner won,t fit because it's for a 16 pin EOBD and the one in your van is more a mazda one or either is a 17 pin or needs to be shorted oot as per fact sheet,i would go with cheffy on this one as he has already ran his like this.As to the initial fault the misfire, that may have been just plug's or something more serious, but as a result that was already mentioned is due to the unburnt fuel going doon to the cat and basically setting fire to it ,this sometimes can damage the cat ,which will then fail the emmision's test on the Mot.

Re: V6 exhaust temperature warning light
Have you checked your new plugs for colour as black plugs show over rich fueling. Apart from a dirty air filter or blockage in pipework it could be a sensor problem fooling the ECU.
