What does it mean?

Post by wheatacre » Thu Dec 31, 2009 9:37 am

Can anyone tell us what the symbol on the right hand side of the instrument panel means - the one which looks like a rectangle with parallel lines coming out of each side [think exhaust silencer box] with the word HEAT written above some wavy lines coming out of the top of the rectangle? Thanks

Thanks for replies. The engine is a V6 petrol engine with lpg conversion. We have a leisure battery. Have checked out the link as suggested - do you mean the info where there is a photo of a switch [by the drivers knee]- is this switch just for diesels, we don't have it. What I am refering to is a red warning light on the dashboard ie like the oil warning light, or the handbrake warning light, not a switch. Looking at the [Japanese] booklet in front of me - the word HEAT is below the symbol - but the wavy lines still come out the top : )

Sorry for the misunderstanding. On the V6, the Heat light comes on when the temp of the catalitic converter is running too high. If it comes on when being driven, you should pull over to let it cool down, and then get it seen to.

Thanks for that. That seems to make sense as we were driving on the motorway when it first came on. However, each morning since then [Tuesday 29th], when the engine has been started from cold [very cold at the moment!] the light comes on and stays on all the time. Do you have any further ideas? Also, as our Bongo is new and still under warranty, if there is a problem we will have to take it to Worcester [JAL] to get it fixed but when it is no longer under warranty, can you recommend anywhere closer to Nottingham?

Hi wheatacre, we've got a V6 and a LPG conversion, however we haven't experienced this problem :? , suggest you take your bongo back to phil (JAL) and have him take a look at it ASAP :!: , he values his 'rep' so dont think you'll have a problem there

Good luck sorting your problem [-o< and dont forget to report back your findings :)

Hi Iz

Thanks for your reply. Think Phil must be on holiday cos he hasn't replied to us but will def let you know what the problem was when it gets sorted. As you have a V6 + lpg can I ask if you ever have problems when the engine switches from petrol to gas, and vice versa. We've only had the Bongo a few weeks and we've taken it back to Worcester once already to have it adjusted but it still seems to be stalling on the initial petrol to lpg switch over and earlier this week, when we ran out of lpg, it lost power completely when switching back to petrol! On the M1!

As tonic says Hillside at Derby are excellent. We have used them in the past for bits and bobs. Hope you get your Bongo sorted soon, wheatacre. Try pm'ing regor (Roger) as he has an v6 - lpg conversion. Manda & Andy

Hi Wheatacre, yes at first we were experiencing problems with stalling when first switching over to LPG :? , this was because the default setting for switch over was set at 40 degrees, there we found it started hunting and eventually stalled :( . Went back to the convertors and explained the problem and they simply adjusted the switch over setting to 50 degrees and since then we haven't had any problems :D, ten minute job. I think every bongo is different and you'll need to find the right temperature setting that suits your vehicle, i know some other LPG users on this forum have theirs set at about 40 degrees but seems like you need to find the right setting for your V6. Dont be put off by this as its just a simple adjustment, just a bit frustrating when you've stalled at the lights :x im lucky my LPG garage is only 8 miles away :)

When your LPG tank runs out of fuel the system will tell you with a high pitch squeal and will automatically switch over to petrol ( no damage will be done ) so dont worry  . Just fill up again as usual.
There are a good few knowledgable people on this forum who may be able to enlighten you further but i hope this helps a little :?: ,( im a novice as well ) but learning something new about bongo's every day  .

Good luck
