Factory fit Corner Sensors

Post by richie » Wed Dec 23, 2009 4:51 pm

I have corner sensors on all 4 corners of my car, but when I bought the car I was told "We removed the bits to stop it talking in japanese" Has anyone heard of this one? the wiring diagrams give details on such a system, but i dont know if it is my system in these diagrams or if my system is an after market job. It all looks wired in nicely, not a bodge job done on someones drive in Japan.

Now heres the question..... does anyone have one that works? I would be interested in looking into getting mine working. I dont mind hearing the japanese for stop if it saves my bumpers! I'm wondering if there is a plug in bit that may be missing under the dash?

Sorry, never heard of such a thing - certainly not a standard fitting.

I don't think the factory fitted system has all corners covered certainly not between 1997 and 1999, the Offside front (nearest driver) is not covered.
Nearside front & back, Offside back, and two rear facing ones. The diagrams are here;

Pretty sure Freewheeler's factory fit one has all four corners covered, but I'm not sure if it ever had a jap voicebox. It's got a different tone beep for each corner & the "display" is on a dash switch I think.

BF member Shad (who never comes on here but who might respond to a PM) has these I think. Some of his worked and I advised swapping to make a working pair at the rear, which he did successfully. His wiring was all intact and he didn't mention anything about Japanese whatever. Might be worth trying him with a PM. 8)

I have factory fitted rear corner sensors - my van is a 95 Freda and they work great - especially useful as I have a tinted tailgate window - they don`t talk Japanese but the frequency between the alarm beeps gets quicker until they become continuous the closer to the wall / car etc you are reversing too. :)
If I had all the money I ever spent on my Freda ............ I`d spend it on my Freda.

David

How do I get one of these reversing sensors (misses)

As my last one returned it'self to the ex-mother in law

Something about the trade discription act! I was not fit for purpose.

Maybe that's why I've got a little bit of my back bumper cracked

Must look into this matter before I continue to go backwards next year.

Best wishes
David.

Factory system will have a display on the dash and one above the rear tailgate from memory on the nearside? no sensor on the drivers side front corner, customers still don't believe me when I tell them they don't get one on that side from the factory, even had one customer ask us to remove the inner arch liner so he could look at back of bumper in case it had a bump and had been fillered up! It hadn't of course.

Never come accross one with voices, some of the turbo timers and ETC (electronic toll collection) and even radios talk in Japanese when you turn ignition on.

If the Bongo has been through SVA perhaps a tester obected to the system for some reason, they were a law unto themselves when SVA was in force.

We had a ACR30 shape Estima with rear and forward facing cameras for parking and they insisted they were disabled.

My 1999 V6 has one sensor on each corner and and another two in the middle of the back bumper,I guess the Japanese owner wasn't a good reverser =P~ There is no Japanese voice, just beeping and a digital readout of how close you are.
We do have some wires in the passenger footwell with jackplugs on the end that we have no idea what they are for though!

I had a 2000 new shape V6 last month and it still had the three corner sensors and two on rear no drivers side front sensor that I recall but will look at the pics again later. Jack plugs in passenger side are likley to the the diversity antenna they have on in Japan for TV reception. Has it a couple of aerials on the roof or on top corners of front screen?
