Creaky joints

Post by dwileigh » Wed Dec 16, 2009 12:16 am

Hello all

Just a quickie question, think I know the answer but would like conformation from the experts.

When I go over speed bumps I'm getting a creaking noise from the front end of the van, both sides. Not long fitted Bulls but dont think it has anything to do with that as I have practically bounced the van around by them since I first heard it the other day. Sounds like grinding metal but not that scary.

I reckon it may be the suspension springs and they probably need a bit of greasing, if I am right where do I lob on the grease, would it be all over or just on the opposite ends where they make contact with the rest of the vehicle.

Thanks in advance and hopefully thats all the problem is.

Droplinks and/or antirollbar bushes & brackets? common issue, quick search will reveal all. Or this thread may help - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... ky&start=0 (right link pasted now  )

You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Mine used to creak over certain severe speed bumps (but not when it was wet!) It turned out to be a (not easy to spot) broken anti-roll bar bush clamp, it had sheared across it's width near the anchor point, but could only be persuaded to open up under EXTREME weight/pressure with a pry bar. I replaced both clamps/bushes as a precaution, if one went, the other can't be far behind.

Our first Bongo did the same, the creak was only there when it was dry.
