UNDER BONNET NOISE

Post by Colin H F » Mon Dec 14, 2009 5:30 pm

I have just been out in the Bongo and I am hearing noises like rubber stretching and rubbing when going over speed bumps, wondered if its got any thing to do with the suspension, I know on other cars certain parts have got rubber gaiters on, could it be this :?: any Ideas folks :?: #-o

Yes, I think so too. I had this on mine for some time but only for 1st few miles. A while later I had clonking and so changed droplinks and antiroll bar bushes and u-brackets. Not ever had the problem again. I suspect the squeaking was an early indication of failure on its way.

no need really they are a simple....if the nuts will undo ...unbolt old bolt on new

do final tightening of drop links with wheels on ground is best

main pain is they tend to be rusted solid

so treat with wd 40/penetrating oil in advance

I'm in the market for drop links on the front too!

But whats the deal with these?

& these...? http://www.bongobits.com/Main.asp?PageN ... roduct=318

More to the point.. The price?
Cheaper by comparison to a race horse...

Doesn't sound like droplinks to me, thats more a clunky knocking than a stretching/rubbing rubber sound.

You don't have any hobbies you havent mentioned Colin do you?

I have had 3 bongos now and they have all made a squelching sound from the suspension when going over speed bumps. If this is the noise you are experinencing then I dont think its anything to worry about. I agree that drop links and suspension bushes tend to make a more metalic sound when they are knackered. However, for peace of mind it might be as well for someone to check that nothing is obviousy wrong.

Mine's always made a 'squelchy' / 'gritty' noise over speed bumps. It's more from the front and sounds pretty horrible, but nothing bad has ever happened! It passed the MOT not so long ago, so it can't be anything fundamental to safety.
