Coolant level drop.

Why is it that once a year, and I'm sure it's always around this time of year, my coolant level drops enough to trigger the alarm. It gets Topped up, and then coolant level does not drop at all, till the same time next year.

Is my bongo wetting itself that winters coming?

First really cold morning...coolant contracts a little bit more and the alarm goes off. You must lose a very small amount over the year for this to happen

Over 46 thousand littres of coolant are lost each year in this manner. It's known as the angels share (they like a drop before christmas, to prepare them for their vigil stuck on the top of the tree)

Great post brora. I have EXACTLY the same issue, and I'd been worrying. Until now that is. I now realise why (thanks for explanations) and reckon it must be close to normal behaviour. One thing I do keep an alarm bell over though is the possibily of Bongo coolant systems gettting an 'embolism' (airlock) in them over time due to air being pulled in through a tiny leak as the system cools. Over time, this could gather in one place. So I'm not relaxed about the fact its nearly 3 years since I last drained and refilled the system. Its at the very top of my list - no more putting it off now the busy season is over!

And the coolant would be the bongo's 'water of life'.. it's a very special sort of angel that drinks coolant
