Fan/Blowers not working...

Post by Kitegirl » Tue Dec 01, 2009 7:01 pm

Hi all,

My air con appears to be working as you can hear it under the bonnet but the fans are not blowing anything through.. the gauge says it's like 32 degrees but I can't demist the windscreen..

Any ideas?? I just need the fans to blow!!

Many thanks,

Dee :?:

Sounds like the resistor. Do a search for "heater AND resistor" (without the inverted commas) - it's a common problem :D

Hi,sounds like a link or operating rod has come off the flap mechanism.

If you really mean the air con I Dont think your air con will work in this weather.

Should do, but only as dehumidifier, not in order to get down below the already v. low ambient air temperature (why would anyone want to? ). Thats what mine seems to do anyway (but v. useful indeed)

FAQ here - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... 43&t=28727 - that should point you at the answers if it hasn't been covered already.

Indeed!

The aircon factsheet has this little gem in it:
In winter you should use the aircon system to warm your vehicle.
Now that really DOES baffle me

(I think they might have intended to say 'dehumidify' )

Its a dehumidifier too Mike, keeps that ghastly condensation stuff at bay.

Thanks people :)

My blowers are not blowing at all, not anywhere... there is the whirring under the bonnet that I believe is the air con working, but nothing coming from any blowers anywhere throughout the van.

What kind of place would I need to take it to to fix the problem?

Would any garage be able to sort it?

This stuff makes my brain hurt....

I have another issue that I'll post about separately, but it just seems to be one thing after another at the mo..

Much appreciated on the responses, I don't know what I'd do without this place!

I'd have thought any half decent garage / auto-electrician shold be able to diagnose this (and possibly fix it but costs are hard to estimate). It sounds like either power isn't getting through (fuses?) or the resistor has blown (but you say no heater fans are working so I presume the rear one isnt either). I understood that usually when the front fan blows the resistor through running too sliffly, that it often still works on the 'full' (4) setting. Since the rear fan will not work anyway unless the front fan is set to 1 or greater, maybe the rear is being affected by the front fan situation. Before going to garage, I would:

1) Remove air scoop under the bonnet (simple and quick to do) and check if the fan is stiff
2) Have a search on here for any info on fuses controlling the fans, then try and check those fuses
3) Print off stuff from here (factsheets) about the fan, resistor and how to repair them plus anything on which fuses controls them. Take this with you to the garage
4) Be prepared to have fan stripped out, stripped down and refurbished (works well and probably cheaper than buying new even with labout costs. If you can find a handy friend to do this it would be much cheaper (and its not hard to do, esp. with the factsheet to guide you)

Good luck - keep us posted 8)
