Fog Lights

Is there a light on the dashboard to tell you that the front fogs are on or is the switch supposed to light up when they are on?

I've got nothing (dash or switch)to tell me mine are one, other than the switch being pressed in (which you can't see in the dark anyway). Bit of a bummer really. Shame there isn't a light like there is to tell you main beam is on. Hadn't really thought about it until now!

Depends on which fog light switch it is?, I have a mazda one and its lit up all the time (well when the lights are switched on).

I also have a mazda one from a 626 for the rear fog light but When that was wired up I could only get it to light up when it was sitched on, which I am happy at that as I know when its on

There is no light on the dash either that will tell you when its swithed on. most probably because they were an extra and didnt come as standard

Nothing to tell you the fog lights are on in the dark, other than the bright yellow beams of light on the road in front of you  Our after market rear fog is wired to the RHS reversing light cluster, but the switch has a red LED on it so you know it's on.

I think it is a legal requirement for all "fog" lights to be fitted with a telltale to let you know when they are on.

I'd have thought so too, but mine doesn't have a tell-tale for the front fogs (factory fitted - I think) & no problems with MOT's yet......

No probs with our MOT pass last week, either on the front or after market rear arangement. but I did have to get a new number plate with bigger numbers on it  (even although it passed last year :!:   )

Pretty sure it's only a legal requirement to have a telltale light for rear fogs.

As it's illegal to use them except in reduced visibility (just the same as rear ones) I would think that the same requirement for a tell tale would apply.

I have never had a vehicle with factory fitted front fogs that didn't have a warning light.

I think that the wiring loom is already in place on most Bongos? Mine has a Mazda switch & just somehow looks a factory fit! I'm think that the 626 dash that I got my mph speedo from had both front & rear fog tell-tales (I remember thinking that I could switch the dash units - before I found out otherwise  ). Could it be that official UK import vehicles need the tell-tale, but grey imports get away without it? I guess probably not, since the rear tell-tale IS a requirement. :?

I must admit to using the fogs on the twisting non-whitelined roads around here at night even in light rain, cos they show up road edges (& the deer  ) so much better. Don't really need a tell-tale though, since the extra light makes it pretty obvious when they're on. Dazzling other drivers isn't generally an issue - there aren't many :)

My front fogs (which as far as i can tell are factory) don't have an on light either!
It is a dead give away when they are on..
The rear fog switch is off a 626 for the top bank i wired a bulb in the dial pod spare to to let me know when that's on.
But the one for my spots comes off a slightly later 626 model does have an on light..
Cheaper by comparison to a race horse...
