Leaking seal on the pump.
Undid the mounting bolts twisted the pump round, got access to the plate.
Changed the seal.
Put everything back and......... no go. :(

Foot down on the throttle and a full battery of turning over and nothing.
Dropped a couple of fuel lines off to see and nothing comes out.

Is there a bleed bolt/valve etc?
On my marine diesel I have to bleed the fuel system but I can't see anywhere obvious on this pump.

The pump was fine two days ago, all I've done is change the seal.
I assume that the position of the pump is a timing issue and shouldn't effect the actual pumping performance even if I've not got it back spot on.
I never moved my pump I did it in situ without moving the mounting bolts as per fact sheet......I need to get the solenoid off to check operation as if you see the 1st symptoms.......it cut out then restarted of sorts, my thinking was crud in the fuel filter as Bongo had been up on jacks while I was doing the spring assisters.....I am going with the solenoid tomorrow when I have got a spanner, if that is eliminated......I need a pump and a garage to fit......then of it can't be done by Thursday......change my bookings and book a hotel........ #-o #-o

Pump timing is now out - this needs to be very acurately retimed with a DTI gauge to the nearest 0.10mm

Yep, it will pump but inject at the wrong time - is there fuel coming up if you open an injector pipe slightly?

Its a Zexel pump, made under licence from Bosch- I know which I'd choose  When you take the old one out, reconnect the wire and earth the body - it should lift the plunger when the "ignition" is switched on

Hi,
did you check for obstruction in the pump when you removed the Solenoid,IE bits of rubber etc.

Sometimes the outlet orifice can get blocked.

I'll probably be proved wrong here but its very unusual for a pump to suddenly fail (unless it has seized) Is there a 12v supply going to the solenoid when the ignition is on?

I'm trying to get my head round how the pump actually works.
Given that the fuel supply is below the pump how does the pump prime?
If it's a centifugal pump I can't see how it would self prime.

If I pulled off the supply hose and gravity fed the pump would this help clear airlocks and refill the pump system.

Bummer :( Sorry to hear of your troubles Mike. These things are sent to try us. Hopefully the garage will get it all sorted OK and normal service will resume, without the wallet being slimmed overmuch. [-o<
