Mr Munkey (gawd bless 'is soul) donated me a back box. As if to echo Toyota's 'Just in Time' supply chain philosophy, the old back box fell off on the way home from collecting it. I had the replacement on in 30 mins, and I'm an old codger and no mechanical genius. I needed a pair of ramps to drive the rear wheels up on to, I used a bit of Plusgas to help release the rusty old nuts, and a six sided socket and extension bar to get leverage, and that was it. Two bungee retainers to undo so it can drop - all very easy.
A while later my middle box wore out. Mr Muzorewa (that esteemed gentleman of tropical extract - gawd bless 'is soul and devil take the hindmost) kidly donated me a middle box. I bought a couple of gaskets from Bongobits and braced myself for a trickier job but no, it too was a doddle to do, rusty nuts notwithstanding. Grazed an arm bone when the extension bar released the nut too suddenly but that cars innit + old fogeys at work.
So with the right tools, this is an easy DIY job if you are not unlucky with the nuts. The old Bongo is full of surprises, most of them pleasant
P.S. - worst bit is trying not to get bits of rust in your eyes - if you have some good goggles, wear them. Being an Irishman, I didn't
