Automatic gear change

Post by johngobongo » Thu Nov 19, 2009 10:35 pm

I drove to Whitby at the weekend and out of the blue when driving back on the A1, it would not change up into top gear and had to struggle back at 40/50mph. It has since struggled changing when driving locally but can change up and down using the throttle. I understand this is not an unusual fault but can`t find this topic on the forum. The auto gearbox oil is crystal clear and does not smell. Please suggest possible/probable reason and solution. Cheers

Is the hold light on the instrument panel flashing when and after the problem has occurred? If so, you can use the transmission fault fact sheet on this website to find out if a fault code has been stored in the computer. This is an easy process.

Either a dirty filter on the gearbox valve block or the throttle position sensor is failing (TPS) It won't flash up the hold light but will store a fault code in the ECU - bumf in the member section about that.
