temp gauge readings on 2.0L

Post by joe-robo » Thu Nov 19, 2009 5:32 pm

ok got the bongo on tue. temp gauge never worked at all so had to take it back today (wheelquick) dad mike put on a new temp sensor and it started working (engine hot on tick over needle sits at approx 11 oclock position)
when i start driving temp gauge drops back down to the 'thick line' next to the 'C' and never rises above until you stop and let it tick over for 5mins then it goes back to 11 oclock
is this normal on the 2.0L petrols, just want to ask before i mither the mikes again?.....

Sitting about 11.00 o-clock sound about right, once the engine is warmed up. I don't recall it dropping back down again when driving along particularly (but i could be wrong) I am sure ours sits about 11.00 most of the time. I will check the next time I am out in the van. Which ever way, as I am sure you will have picked up by now reading posts on the forum, the standard dials are not particularly sensitive. You may wish to consider a mod. to allow you to better gauge the temp, if it concerns you.

Hi,
Take it back to the Mikes,if its not the gauge its probably a faulty thermostat.

thanks hayden, you being the cooler king that puts the mind at ease abit, do you recormmend one of your box of tricks for the 2L?

never got chance to get to wheelquick today with work stuff so never got to speak with the mikes, but when i went to get the temp sensor fitted he did say that it has the rad etc from the 2.5D which is on the large side for the 2L so doesnt get that hot?....
