wind it into the rivnut then work out how much thread u need above for rack bracket /bolt and chop x4 the same etc.
Then wind down a shallow nut and thin washer to lock the thread to the rivnut .
Then slide the rack etc onto remaining thread ,washer on top and another nut ,can undo as many times as u want. :D
Other option is to drill out the rivnut/inserts put new ones in but before clenching them place a large washer underneath for it to grip on .
:D
Hmmm - food for thought that. I could even use wing nuts for tool free quick removal and swapover of the caravanstore and mounting from n/s to o/s. The only negative factor is unsightly studs sticking up in the winter months when the caravanstore isn't being carried (but maybe I can make some suitable caps and make a feaure of them). I wonder where I could buy (stainless steel so they don't weld in place? ) M4 threading, wing nuts etc. round here?

povoa brothers in stretford is my choice for all stainless bolts etc.
Francis kirk in stockport are ok bit dearer, also screwfix and turner fixings are ok .
Bits wouldnt cost a lot to be fair i probably have what u need knocking aboutthat u can have .
regarding covering the thread i would pull the sleeve off some phone cable white,or depending on the colour of ur top silver sleeve and slide it over too match the roof colour .
Sure u wouldnt notice it then,u can get plastic cap heads for ehen u permanently fix it.
Could even use plumbing nylon /rubber washers to isolate the washer between poptop washer and then rack washer etc.
Could always get some blue led lights like the halfords boys have for on each thread ,could be fun at airport end of hale road
