Interior cab lights

Me again with yet more electric probs (still working on the others but have some good advice to help me - thanks to this site)

Not a massively important one this but....
Anyway - The interior lights in the front don't switch on and off with the front doors opening/closing.

Not sure if the light is standard but there is a single light cluster with 2 lights - one driver/one passenger and each light has its own switch. There is also a slidey switch in the middle edge with DOOR and OFF. The lights go on and off as normal whne you use their own switches and when switched on (or off) but the slidey switch makes no difference to the state of the lights when doors open or closed - hope this makes sense - in essence the doors being open or closed makes no odds to the state of the lights.

Just an asidebut it looks like there should be a third light in the middle but when pull the cluster out of the roof there is no missing bulb or spare wires.

Everything is fine in the back - which is probaly the only working electric bits in my bongo!

Check if the switches at the bottom of each door pillar are still there. I took mine out to stop the infernal beeping.

Yes switches are still there and I do get that infernal beeping!

Why did you not opt to give yours the snip like wot others have done MM? I really should do mine, but I'm old tired and lazy these days (well, except for being an obsessive writer.....on here )

Check the state of the wires on the slide switch, and give the slide switch a clean with some spray electrical cleaner if you can.
As the Bleeper is working when you open the doors and and the Lights themselves work it can only be the wires or switch, if you connect a flying lead from the vehicle chassis to the lamp side of the switch it should bring the lights on, likewise provided the switch is "ON" then connecting the lead to the other side of the switch should bring the lights on (and also bring on the Bleeper as well).

Sorry to be a bit dense but which switch are we talking about when using the flying earth lead?
There are 3 involved - the individual light switches, the door/off switch and the switches in the door frame? Presume the latter?

Yup the central slide switch that is "OFF" or "DOOR" in the middle of the plastic, I noticed on mine that they had appeared to use solid single strand wire rather than flexible multi stranded wire and when picking up an earth for another function a little bit of pressure caused one of the wires to break, I can imagine that happening in due course just from vibration

There's a fair chance that the plunger switches on the bottom of the door frames are sticking - mine do it every so often. just unscrew the switches & spray contact cleaner into the switch as well as you can. Then activate by hand until they work! Hopefully..

Hmm but if the beeeeeep works, chances are the switches are okay . . .
