I haven't looked at the advert, but they might be selling the 4 hoses that blow most often?

It's the 4 big ones - engine to rad & back again to the stat, so no, not necessarily the most common ones :roll:

Ask the seller that one :wink: I bet they don't even know themselves.
The 4 large ones are perceived to be the ones most likely to go, but this ain't necessarily so, the bleed hose & the one over the starter are number 2 & 3 as likely as the top hose coming out of the engine to the rad.
At the end of the day, all the hoses are the same age, so if one goes, it makes sense that they should all be replaced asap.

OMG - can of worms!!

How many actual hoses do I need to replace with silicone ones to ensure safety?

Not the common ones then. :) Yes definitley ask a few questions, or buy elswhere.

Hah, how longs a piece of red tape... you may not need to replace any. :) But as fas as I know, the hoses that most commonly blow are 1. the one to the radiator to the engine (under the drivers seat), 2. the one above the starter, 3. the bleed hose, 4. the hose from the head to the thermostat housing, 5, 6. the 2 turbo coolant hoses, and 7. the one from the thermostat housing to the heater pipe.

As above - all of them.
If Flippa still does the set of 14, ask for an extra bleed hose if possible, this can then be cut int 3 to do the 3 he doesn't do, the 2 to the turbo & the return hose from the expansion tank if I remember right.
Bear in mind also with the silicon, you'll need decent hose clips, not the usual cheap crap that'll cut into the silicon & don't overtighten them.

I was a bit slow there :wink: :lol: I wasn't aware of the turbo ones being an issue, that is interesting, glad I made mine from the silicon now.

Sometimes it's better safe than sorry. :wink: Yes the turbo ones eventually harden and pop.

If you think about it, the thermostat has been working its little nuts off for the last 12/13 years or so.
it may not even be working ,or even stuck open. when you change the hoses your gonna have to drop the coolant ,you may as well change the stat , around £14 on ebay.
and like Kirsty says clean the radiator out. (just like me and bigdaddy are going to do on Monday).

I agree 10000% - I've had this niggling feeling that more than one overheat might have been contributed to, if not caused by, a dodgy thermostart. When I changed mine, the time for temp gauge to move off the stops changed from 10 mins after start to 5 mins after start. This told me that although the old one may have been within OK parameters, it was not fully fit. What the hell happens if for some reason the jolly old thing decides not to open. Hell happens, thats what happens :lol: :? :( :cry: :evil: #-o 8)
