I thought i had fixed it!!

Post by Pablobongo » Fri Nov 06, 2009 7:56 am

A little while ago, i had a problem with my front heater fans not working..... and after being directed to the relevant fact sheet, discovered a blown fuse, and a seized fan bearing. Anyway, after taking out and lubricating the fan motor, and putting back together, testing, and success!!, well, partial success. Last night going to a firework display, i discovered that the fan does not work on all settings, or indeed on all modes in the climate control. if you hit auto, no joy. If you hit windscreen mode, no joy and manually on full blast, joy!.....but if you redirect the flow into the cabin, it will work on half fan speed.....but direct it back to screen, no joy!!?

Anyway, does this point to the resistor needing attention?.....the symptoms don't appear to be exactly those described on the factsheet

I would say it was a resistor fault, as the "not working on all speeds" has happened to me.
It depends which leg of the resistor has popped free, that makes the difference between losing air at all settings or individual settings.

All the best.

I'd say the resistor is the first place to look.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

definitely suspect resistor. The seized fan bearing will have overheated it but - it seems - not quite to the point of failure. Fan mended, but resistor soldering probably now kaput. Need to resolder etc.
