Automatic folding mirrors?

Post by davelou » Sun Oct 25, 2009 10:09 pm

Hi all,
I've today fitted remote central locking and was thinking if it is possable to have the mirrors wired up to fold in when locking the car :?: Can this be done easily or is too much hassle :?: Dave

Been there, done it & it kind of works to a fashion & looks great...! But still needs a little refinement. Not as straight forward as a total window closure installation..

Plus you would need a double pulse lock..!

There are only two on here to my knowledge that have ever tried... My self & Cheffy34 (Dar) now Cheffy (correct me if i'm wrong) blew two switches in the attempt.. I fried a small section of the PCB which i managed to repair..! :P
The idea was to use a window closure module on mine to close the mirrors & blinds, then another one from the boot release to trigger the passenger rear door blind to open should i have passengers needing to access the rear.? (I had already fitted em to the windows so they would close on locking if left open.)

But alas this tale of head scratching woe was fraught with danger....

Yea. I'd love to have all these mods, but lifes too short to risk the short circuits. Besides, I'm so forgetful I have to keep returning to the car for something I've forgotten. It'd drive me nuts with all that lot opening and closing every time I returned then left again.

OK, here is what i found out about doing this mod... It's not as simple as it appears. & i haven't really had the time to investigate further..
I found the close wires at the back of the mirror switch & patched in a 2 window closure module just using the wires for the one side, The idea was for the mirrors to open out on starting the vehicle & only close on locking or using the switch, ( i planned to use the other side to close the blinds) but for some reason & i can only assume it's the way the switch PCB is wired, it only works when the switch is pressed down...
It also causes a voltage "back flush" if the switch is not pressed down that turns the radio on for a short duration if left on when the ignitions off when the vehicle is alarm/locked.. A diode fitted to the mirror power supply was thought to remedy this...? But no! #-o
I also put a spare spur on the lighter socket loom to power & charge a sat nav.. This socket is kept out of sight under the dash (i hate trailing wires) & the charger comes out between the dash & the door pillar to where the sat nav sits.. when not in use the power cable for the sat nav pokes back down the side of the dash imitating an alarm sensor when not in use.

Anyway, i have discovered when the sat nav is connected & fully charged & left on, the mirrors work when the Bongo's locked!! Lets face it whose gonna want to do that!?! [-X

In summary; If i have forgotten to close the mirrors i can flick the switch when the ignitions off & they will close when i lock... Unless i leave my sat nav in the van fully charged & switched on then it works perfectly! :P

Like i said.. Needs a little refinement....
