Electric Windows wrong way!

Post by Bongo_Blade » Mon Oct 05, 2009 10:53 am

Hello fellow Bongo owners,

After years of "Will I, Won't I", I have finally bought my first Bongo. I went on my first rally a few weeks ago and have to say I loved it. :D

My Bongo is a 1997 2WD 2.5TD with a full side Elite conversion, and although it came with a few niggles, I have managed to sort them all out except one!

The problem I am hoping someone can help me with is to do with the electric windows. Although not a major problem, the drivers (auto) switch will operate the passenger window and the passenger switch operates the drivers window.

I removed the door casing thinking I could just swap the cables to the switch, but the cables go to block connectors which can only be inserted one way. The cable have not been cut or altered so I think I am looking at the wrong place.

Does anyone know how I can make the right switch operate the right windows?

Thank, Paul.

Sounds to me like the switch could have been replaced at some point with one from a left hand drive model...??

If so..? I would go down the wire swapping route on the loom just below the connector.!
But you might find the passenger window isolation rocker switch will work on yer drivers side...?

Thanks for the quick reply jaylee.

I think you may be right about the switch coming from a left hand drive model as the passenger window isolation rocker does indeed lock the drivers windows.

I dont really want to start cutting wires so think I may just put up with it and see if a switch comes up on ebay cheap

I fitted a 626 switch to mine successfully... The originals never seem to come up on the Bay cheap.
The 626 in my opinion is a sturdier switch.. they look the same cosmetically, i just changed the face plate!

If you do decide, it's just a four wire swap to normality... Quite painless..

Good luck! :D

I've just nearly swallowed by tongue, £110 for a window switch on evil bay.
They must be having a laugh

jaylee. the switch for the 626 looks on the bay looks a lot different with 4 switches. What year 626 did yours come from?

My original got butchered by the previous Jap owner trying to fix a problem that was actually in the door loom..!! An earth wire had come adrift! #-o

Same era, mid 90's Two door model got for a tenner.. Though i did do a little fettling too.. i fitted a window closure module, & the rocker switch (which was wired differently) i wired as a panic button Total lock down! Oh & i back lit it with a blue led...

I still think a wire swap on yours would put everything (including the passenger window lock.) back to normal.. :D

Test with a meter to make sure...!! (assuming your loom coding's the same as mine.)
Red wire/white stripe to red wire/ black stripe. & visa-versa..
Orange wire to green wire & visa-versa. Job done!!

I've also seen a 323? two door P reg that has the same switch too.. Plate & all by the look of it!

Oh yeah..!! forgot about the MX5 or Eunos as it is also known...

Hi Paul... Have i read that right? Or am i being particularly thick this evening? #-o (for example) If your passenger goes to open/close their window... the drivers window goes up/down instead of their own? And vice versa? :?

Ah, right... Just me being thick then! It's been a LOOong day... Shopping in Manchester, i had to switch to "shopping" mode...Hence my lack of comprehension! Got me a lovely new pair of jeans though!

Back to the wiring.... Try making up a set of leads a few inches long each with male spade connector one end & female t'other then no splicing needed, just connect the original connectors using these leads & then you can easily swap the ones you need to.

Bigdaddycain, i don't wanna shame your perfection 8)
Where can a homie get a piddle diddy spade connection?
It needs to fit the connector, i'm not spouting conscientious objector
It's great idea, but the factory displays fiddly & Jaylee's wire swap would be complimentary
like a channel four documentary where they remove the depends shout a bit, bunch o flowers then they hug in the end.
I can see your remedy could can make a neat solution to the Blade's affliction
reverse Psychology on what seems to be essentially a switch for a ride with pride designated for the right hand side
Cut swap & solder, beauty's in the eye behold the switches will do as they're told
Ste, i hope you got your rhyme on? Buy the time i get come back i gotta be gone
Your a brave bro shopping for the sake of the show id rather drive my Bongo off a bridge with my dog in the back while i type this hands free with my wireless technology
as the slurry from the river wipes a tear from my eye as i remember this guy who wrote me about being my biggest fan, but i never replied... DAMN!

RESPECT  :D

Yo Stan, my man, you got skillz with electrical symmetrical, somewhat hypothetical but none pathetical ways of sourcing power - i flounder, in the mythical magical ways of impedance flows-it shows.. jus' look at the way kirsty knows the deal on deducin' a solution - I was jus' juicin' - what you could call seminal,i'd have never genned up on the ingenious terminal - i'm not a loon, but the loom did escape my ways of thinkin' -- my mind must ave been blinkin- but not sleepin- jus creepin of wayz to school ya'll with unfounded knowledge - the type not learned in college - but the real world ways, without a faze of fuses poppin' an' blowin' - i'm jus' showin' that jaylee is on the right track - not a whack smack lack of knack with the circuit track - I'm no hack, but know my way around a slack switch on this dope track - Feel the funk - don't have ya pooch blowin bubbles in the trunk of ya freda - he might jus' need ya - or lead ya in a new way of dealin with the ways of elecktrickery - gotta get me some hickory - So i'ma click the kettle on before i get way too flickery.... Peace!
