Help black smoke!!!!!!

Post by 88inchv8 » Mon Sep 28, 2009 11:32 am

Can anyone help me, every time my van kicks down, or i accelerate quickly, i get a huge black cloud behind me, van is a bit sluggish too, I wonder if the diesel pump is overfuelling, and if it is, how do I adjust it to run leaner please?

Has anything been done immediately prior to this happening? When did you last change the air filter? If you look at THIS THREAD and read down to where 'Ralph' asks about the tickover adjustment and 'Demonav' replies, it explains about diesel pump screws (old and new type pumps).

Thanks Doone, i've studied the thread and although it explains about tickover and idle speeds, it doesn't mention air/fuel ratios/adjustments. :( Any other ideas anyone please? [-o<

It does tell you which adjustment screw does what. Are you saying that you want to turn the pump back? Someone else did that HERE. If you need more than that, someone else will be along soon. :)

I'd go for the egr option first, nice 'n' easy & even if it isn't the problem, your bongo'll thank you for it - would you run well if you were sucking in your own waste?
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.
