left hand indicator lights not working

Post by Prof. Nehemiah Bongo » Sun Sep 27, 2009 9:42 pm

Hi Bongonauts

The indicator on our 1995 2.5D bongo is working for signalling right, but not for signalling left.
The bulbs are fine (checked them separately) but the relay switch is just making very fast clicking sounds and none of the bulbs, including the one in the dashboard is working.
Also, the emergency switch only lights the right hand bulbs.
Is there anything straightforward that can be done to fix this? The wiring
under the steering wheel is a bit confusing for me.

Any help would be appreciated

Have you got a towbar fitted, could it be the towbar wiring causing the problem? Or have you got repeater bulbs in the wing, these are a retrofit & the wiring could be iffy there I suppose.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Thanks, Kirsty

no tow bar fitted and I don't think there are any repeater bulbs fitted anywhere. What would they look like (extra bulbs on the side of the vehicle, or some thing?)?

Repeater bulbs would be fitted in the side of the front wings. Check the connections at both indicators front & back, could just be an iffy connection there.

Yup, did that first thing (checking the connections). I fear it may be some trouble in the wiring from the switch to the LH side. Someone had tried to hotwire the car a month or so ago and we had it successfully mended after that. The indicator worked fine at first, then lately the LH side had intermittent faults, now there's nothing. I'll have another look for obvious damage to any of the cables.

OK, I've checked all the fuses and the cables as far as I could and there's no obvious damage. However, I found a connector loose in the front left hand side (I'm surprised I hadn't noticed it before). There is a picture; how can I attach a picture?
I can't find the place where it could possibly fit.

Any help would be welcome.

thanks very much Rob; as you can see I've circumvented the problem by inserting the picture in my profile :) (since it didn't need to be big).
