Advice on overheating please
So here is a little background info.
Coolant hose replaced & all bled everything running fine.
Started to overheat week before last & realised that the clip was loose on the hose & had dropped loads of coolant. Replaced clip with a more suitable size and then bled through all the coolant as per the method on the fact sheet.
When bleeding noticed alternator belt needed replacing.
Working ok for a few days
Replaced alternator belt.
Working ok till we went away for weekend on Friday. Overheated so we thought perhaps we should have bled it again after alternator belt or what???
Bled by roadside this time using the funnel method. Anyhow got it sorted & went on our way about 55 miles.
No sign of overheating.
Parked up till this afternoon & went a few miles and it started overheating.
Doesnt seem to bleed properly loads of steam coming out of the bleed tube.
Did this a few times then after the 4th time we thought we would just keep going and see if it happened again.
Didnt overheat! Made it home but when we pulled up it was bubbling in the expansion tank and chucking it out throught the overflow.
So have been thinking where to start?
Blockage?
Thermostat?
Water pump? Just noticed that there is a weird squealing noise which is similar to the one that was heard when the water pump went on the Land Rover.
So guys are we looking at the right things?

Re: Advice on overheating please
Could be the water pump I suppose, are you still losing water?
If you've had repeated overheats, there's a reasonable chance you've caused more serious damage, I'd get the header tank tested to check for exhaust gasses if it were me, but i wouldn't keep driving it if it's bubbling. If you're not sure get it to a bongo friendly mechanic/garage

You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Re: Advice on overheating please
From bitter experience.....when tightening up the alternator pulley it also tightens the water pump pulley. If you overtighten it the first thing to go will be the water pump bearings resulting in a leaky water pump and consequent loss of coolant.
good luck.

good luck.

Thanks guys!
Definitely parked up till its fixed now!
So will start off with the water pump & see if that fixes it!
Anyone point me in the direction of compatible parts. Read on here somehwhere that you can use ford ranger parts put I cant find it for looking

Re: Advice on overheating please
from experience missfixit advice is way to go, bills run up very easily so maybe best to rule out head damage first with an exhaust gas test. why did you replace hose ?

Re: Advice on overheating please
This all seems stem from when you had a hose replaced and either the wrong Jub clip was fitted or it was not fitted correctly. Did a Bongo garage do the job ?? was the system bled by the garage according to the recommended methods ??
How may times do we hear about Bongos that go into a garage for a simple hose/pump/rad change and then overheat shortly after.??
Did your Bongo overheat when the original hose failed ? If it didn't , I would ask your garage what they did and how they did it.
If a was not involved, I would think back to where you could have gone wrong.

Thanks for the replies.
The hose was replaced as it was perishing not long before we bought the van privately. It was bought from a member of the forum. He did the bleeding and showed us where everything was (bleed pipe etc) & told us it took him a couple hours to bleed it through. Unfortunately the jubilee clip used was the wrong one!
The first overheat was when we discovered that it had dropped loads of coolant from the loose clip.
After clip was replaced bled right through.
Hubbie just pointed out that he noticed the belt a week later when he was just nosing about.
Between finding the belt needed replacing and the next overheat we went to Devon & drove around 250 miles in all on the trip.
Hope I havent missed any info out as shattered as was out till 4am at hospital with my grandad.

Re: Advice on overheating please
If all was well in the cooling system before you changed the hose and one of the recommended bleeding methods was carried out...then...it should not take more than "approx" 30/40 mins to do a full system bleed....If it took 2 hours to get a "result" it could point to a problem.
Re: Advice on overheating please
Sorry meant couple of hours to do the job including bleeding. Didnt word it right!
Like I said I'm not quite the ticket today

Re: Advice on overheating please
Well so far we have taken off the water pump which had a bit of wobble and makes a grinding noise when you turn it.
It was a hell of a job to get off as one of the nuts rounded off
but got there in the end.
Thought we'd check the thermostat while we had everything in bits and that is faulty too!
So hubbie just went to collect the thermostat as luckily a local parts place had it in stock.
Am hopin it wont take him too long as it is a 15 mile round trip on his bicycle!
