am i being paranoid ? is it the aircon ? is it serious ?

hello folks,

i have now been properly bongoed !

i picked up my first 2.5TD auto 4WD tin top today from JAL in worcester.

i loved every minute of the 70 mile drive - despite my nerves as i've never driven a van, a diesel or an automatic before.

i even waved at another bongo coming in the other direction - if only they could see my beaming grin. :D

anyway when i parked up i noticed 'fluid' dripping from the bonnet area. #-o

i checked the coolant level. it looked well topped up - and i have an alarm fitted.

the screen wash and brake fluid looked ok as well.

now i'm no mechanic so excuse the following description.

there was a grey metal pipe with two 90 degree bends in it in the centre of the engine.

one bends 90 deg horizonally and one 90 deg vertically.

there is also a blue plastic 'thumb screw' attached with an 'F' on it.

is this the aircon ?

where this pipe goes up vertically into a big black box of tricks there seemd to be a 'water' leak.

if this is the air con - is this just condensation ? or could it be air con fluid ?

the leak seemed worse when i put the air con on.

any help - especially photos to identify the problem pipe would be really appreciated.

cheers

the connector with F (probably H) sounds like aircon, you do get condensation when the Aircon is on for a while and you park up, usually a "puddle" under the front and on the offside near around where the heater controls are located....

Stick something under it & catch whatever's dripping, sounds like it's just a/c condensate though if it's coming from the ccentre of the front area, about the level of the back edge of the bonnet. If it's clear water you're ok

Helpful replies as I had the same worry when we were in France but as it was in two places (front and side as mentioned above) and then cleared up I forgot to check on the forum when I got home. At the time I was very worried as the mad 3 year old was rushing about yelling "coolant leak" and the less-then-impressed hubby told me to taste it to see what it was

So glad you are enjoying your Bongo, Bombadilo (in spite of that initial flurry of fear). That grin should stay with you for ever - almost a year on and mine's still fixed :D

The part with the hand next to it labelled 6150 on the second diagram is the evaporator housing mounted on the front of the bulkhead under the bonnet & should be where the condensate was dripping from.

kirsty,

yes its definitely the air con - thanks for the diagrams.

the 'leak' or water appears to be coming from part 6150 where it joins one of the pipes underneath.

its the joint between part 6150 and the pipe furthest back that appears to be leaking.
