CAN U HELP
can some one please tell me the nearest bongo specialist to northampon?
1)Some good relaible brakers to call regarding getting a gear box for a 2.5td 4wd. I have called all the numbers on the forum.
2)Does any one know the actual kirb wait approx of the 2.5td 4wd - can not see it on the chassi plate?
Wanted to go with Discount trucks, they had a gearbox but it seems sold subject to confirmation, (price was right and Jerry sounded professional) NO GO IT SEEMS!
This is becoming a pain "no reverse"- want to tidy my bongo up but I need to get gear box fitted first to see what cash if any I can spare - rebuiling the box is to expensive. Wont be long before some one crashes into the bongo the way I have to park half on/off the pavement.

Coincidence that you should ask that - I took mine in for MOT this morning (passed flying colours) and the guy wanted to know the kerb weight (something to do with kerb weight versus breaking force %ish sort of thingy).
This information is not on our vehicle registration document, on last years MOT test cert, not on any vehicle-mounted plate, or anywhere else I looked so he made an initial guess at 1800kg which I asked him to uprate to 2000kg to err on the safe side (this being a figure that got lodged in my mind - from where I don't know)

Coincidence that you should ask that - I took mine in for MOT this morning (passed flying colours) and the guy wanted to know the kerb weight (something to do with kerb weight versus breaking force %ish sort of thingy).

Check eBay. I swear I saw someone breaking a bingo down Suffolk I think. Advert is for one bolt for £1 but his number is on there. Good luck.

Thanks for the link, but that just makes it more confusing, with figures bounding about -guestimates etc.
I will be towing near to max capacity and have had a few vans in the past some of the figures mentioned sound a bit light to me. I will probably put it on the weigh bridge.
I'm guessing it weigh's close to 2 tonne as I think my nissan primastar was 2.5 (that may be gross) tonne.
I think to work out curb weight you have to subtract carrying/load capacity which includes fuel from the gross weight.
Putting it on the weigh bridge with little fuel in should give a rough idea of what figure is accurate. I''m hoping for about 1900kg ish.
Then I believe you can tow 85 percent of that figure with a braked trailer.
"oh, and did try bell hill - delivery next of parts week apparently-

I've got my little manual in front of me (can't find anything in the big one) and it only quotes "vehicle weight" rather than gross or kerb weight and I don't know the difference!!
Anyway, not sure what you've got but
SGL 5 auto 4WDdiesel with AFT and eight seats is 1860 kg
I suppose if you add the weight of 65 litres of diesel and eight average Japanese folk plus two batteries, if you have two, you might get some sort of figure for something. I'm only trying to help here, I don't know what I'm talking about

Mine is an unconverted 2.5td awd that doesnt go backwards
Gross I belive means the weight of the vehicle including the load it can carry so eight people of average size and fuel or a total i.e. 800kg
I though I read some where these are a van drived mpv. I'e built kind of like a commercial vehicle?
Where as for example the astra van is car derived van?
Anyway looks like dandy's weight should be some where near.
Question for dandy.

Great news - well maybe not for you lot. I got a gearbox, hopefully it's the right one.
paid a deposit and it is suposed to all work. Cost a bit more than the going rate but I reacon bits are getting more expensive. Got to drive a bit of a way too, so gonna use a bit of diesel too but hopefully problem solved.
How much fuel you reacon (driving steady mainly motorway) If I can beat the rush hour 2hrs 20 each way about 240miles in total

How long is a piece of string?
Depends on so many variants
1-How heavy your right foot is
2-traffic conditions
etc, etc, etc
I have just looked at my fuel consumption register and on a 252 mile journey (motorway - London to NE Derbyshire), I topped up at the end with 40.6 litres (I always brim the tank). This equated to 28.22mpg.
Also, I recently travelled from Weymouth to NE Derbyshire at night (motorway-little traffic-no holdups) and got 27.56mpg.
On both trips, I was doing 70mph (sometimes 80 until the SATNAV told me to slow down).
I reckon my fuel consumption is pretty good from what I have read. My best return to date is 31.33mpg.
Others will give very different figures for their machines and that is why I said at the beginning How long is a piece of string?

Sorry, chap - I was just trying to get a ball park figure to factor into my costing for the gearbox.
i.e I know certain journeys I do in the car take say 1/2 a tank - eastmidlands airport, luton etc. and others I can do on a full tank at a push.
I appreciate there are many factors! I talk to people who weigh thier fuel as to keep weigh down which helps fuel consumption and lap times up.
That's why I said mainly motorway for 2hrs, i.e 70ish mph -before rush hour hope fully no traffic- 214miles round trip. If my van rev's at 3/4 thou? at that speed that's all it will do, I'm not an irratic drive. I was just lloking for a guessimate out of curiosity.
The time I have had the bongo,short town type journeys I though it was thirsty yes I now this where mpg suffers - but when I set the trip I' am actually doing quite a few miles. If the speedo convertor has change km to mph, I presume it is clocking in miles too?
