Starting - Click only - MOT Tomorrow

Post by Mike Jill and Emily » Mon Sep 21, 2009 7:51 pm

I have searched pages of posts without finding what I'm looking for - quite

It is suggested that the starter contacts may need replacing - but - I have noticed that usually when I turn the key in the ignition the throttle linkage under the drivers seat moves - but now I get no movement just the click of the solenoid. I do not get any dimming of the headlights which does seem to suggest the starter contacts.

As it is now dark and raining I would like to be reasonably sure that removing the starter motor and attempting to clean the contacts up as a temporary measure may help, or is the linkages not moving indicative of something else ??- otherwise I will have to cancel the MOT and get some beer instead

Pleeease - help

would bet good cash its the contacts

the linkage moves due to vacuum caused by turning the engine over all clicking and no turning means no linkage movment

you should be able to remove strip and clean the starter in an hour or so

Thanks for the speedy reply Rob,

The contacts are beyond "mitigation" so I will have to cancel the MOT and order some contacts instead :(

 Unfortunatley I have a similar problem tonight. Loaded the girls, turned the key, waited for glow plug light to go out and got nothing but clicking. Asked Ady if he had been messing with anything, i.e moving the live feed to the leisure battery, but he says no. I will check fuse 9 tomorrow to see if that has gone at all. Gutted

Good luck getting it sorted Chell and Ady. Battery OK? Battery terminals on tight?

I await my turn with this particular fault..... :?
